How light can you go? 66-grams!

adidas | Second Skin Concept | Brand Boost | Eye-Candy

Back when ultra-lightweight running was trending, adidas wanted to push minimalism to its extreme. So, we co-created a concept shoe that weighed less than a pack of tissues…

SERVICES Apparel & Footwear Design

Working as adidas’s innovation partner, alongside composite fibre specialist KTM Technologies, we explored how far less could go. We mapped fibres along the same force lines as the foot’s tendons, stitching them into an ultra-thin membrane, laminated and heat-formed into shape. No sole. No upper. Just a concept structure to support the foot.

The result was an ultralight prototype that achieved the impossible weight target; a bare-minimum performance structure that still feels futuristic today. In a world now obsessed with oversized, maximalist sneakers, this 66-gram experiment remains a reminder of design’s eternal pursuit: how light can we go, what are the limits of technology?

The Second Skin Concept is a legend in our studio’s history: a concept that redefined limits and kicked off an eight-year partnership of branded design with adidas.
